In March 1932, Hutchins married Susan IVA Curry (1915-1933) daughter of Ledford Ezekiel Curry and Gracie Selina Saunders (1884-1953). Iva died in childbirth with their first child. She was in extended labor with a breach baby. Hutchins was on a fishing trip. When he returned home, he discovered that his wife and baby were already deceased.
In May 1935, he married Mabel Movena Albury (1916-1992) daughter of Ronald Albury and ?.
