Curtis received his early and formal education at the All Age School on Green Turtle Cay. At a very early age he followed in his dad’s footsteps of working on a boat as a crew member. His voyages took him to Cuba, Haiti, Dominican Republic and Jacksonville, Florida. It was on one of his voyages to Jacksonville that he met the love of his life, Virginia ‘Ginny’ Middleton, and on January 1, 1952, they were united in marriage.
Curtis was employed by the Glidden Paint Company until he retired in 1991. After retiring Curtis and Ginny returned to the settlement of Green Turtle Cay where they made their home until the time of his death.
While he was in Green Turtle Cay, he would carry out his hobbies of plumbing, repairs to lawn mowers and stoves, and putting up the flag throughout the town. Some of his favorite pastimes were feeding the birds at the old Church of God steps and having coffee breaks with “the crew” at the coffee shop and Plymouth Rock Cafe. Curtis also served as the Green Turtle Cay Burial Society Treasurer until his death.
Known as ‘Pa’ by his family, Curtis also served as treasurer of the Memorial Sculpture Gardens, and head of the volunteer fire department. He was also a long-time resident of Jacksonville and worked for Glidden Paints. He was transferred to Miami, Florida. Later he retired to Green Turtle Cay where he spent the remainder of his life dedicated to his family and helping anyone on the Cay who needed it.
Family friend Julie Chudley Farrington recalls…
I will miss seeing the homes and remembering the wonderful people who lived in them. Curtis and Ginny Curry – Curtis riding around town on his three-wheeler bicycle; Ms. Ginny making all of my kids’ birthday cakes; Ms. Ginny on the front porch dressed as a witch giving out Halloween candy; the beautiful Christmas cactus on that porch.

The house was built on the Abaco mainland in the vicinity of Boiling Hole.
It was dismantled and transported over to Green Turtle Cay.
