Both Charles and his father were schoolmasters at the Green Turtle Cay All Age School. Iris Lowe Powers recalls that Charles Gifford Lowe taught her grandmother, Charlotte Lowe Roberts (1874-1973).

On May 15, 1919, in Duval County, Florida, Charles married Myra Weston Bethel (1880-1944) from Hope Town, Abaco. She is the daughter of William Bethel (1854-1941) and Rosa Linda Pinder (1857-1933).
