Reginald “Reggie” Harold Roberts was born on April 2, 1925, in Green Turtle Cay, Abaco to Harry Roberts (1892-1976) and Estella Louise Lowe (1895-1927).
His siblings included…
- John Reuben (1915)
- Clarence Gilbert (1917)
- Percival Arthur (1919)
- Roselyn Elizabeth (1921)
Niece Estella Curry Lowe recalls…
I really never knew Uncle Reggie – only the little information my family told of him. He died at a very young age. He was a crew member on a freighter running between Miami and Nassau. One night in Miami walking from his girlfriend back to the port, he was robbed and beaten brutally. He made it back to the ship but was unaware of the severity of his internal injuries. The ship left for Nassau the next day. Upon arrival, he was unable to get out of bed and was immediately taken to the hospital. He passed away a few days later.
Reggie and my dad John Wesley Lowe lived within walking distance in the settlement of New Plymouth on Green Turtle Cay. They hiked up the island hill to school in the mornings and horsed around on the docks in the afternoons. They both left for the capital city Nassau to seek employment after finishing Green Turtle Cay’s All Age School.
