Marcel used both the sea and the land for his livelihood. His Uncle Eddie introduced the crawfish industry to Abaco in 1938. Eager to be a part of this exciting adventure, Marcel left school at fourteen to go crawfishing. Because the profits from crawfishing were meagre in the early days, Marcel supplemented his income by turtling and shark fishing. He once brought in a 2500-pound Mako shark. An industrious man, Marcel also hunted wild boar on Abaco Island, then salted and shipped most of the meat to Nassau.
Marcel Samuel Sawyer passed away July 24, 2011 (age 85) in Nassau, New Providence. He is my 3rd cousin 1 time removed.
