Gideon J Lowe was born on May 18, 1816, in Green Turtle Cay, Abaco to John ‘Jockie’ Lowe (1784-1858) and Mary Ann ‘Polly’ Curry (1790-1891). He is a grandson of Gideon Lowe Jr & Nancy Saunders Lowe.

On April 28, 1838, Gideon married Mary Fletcher Curry (1820-1905) from Green Turtle Cay, Abaco. She is the daughter of Benjamin Curry (1788-1861) and Catherine Sawyer (1798-1871).

The Lowe family emigrated to Key West in 1848. Passengers on the manifest included: Gideon J Lowe, Mary Fletcher Curry Lowe and their family, Gideon’s brother Joseph Lowe and his wife Christiana Curry Lowe and their infant daughter Adaline Lowe, Polly Curry, and children Richard and Martha Curry. Albert Saunders, age 20, was also traveling with them.

Gideon J Lowe, dry goods merchant, died 22 March 1894 in Key West, Florida at 77 years of age. He is buried in the City Cemetery. He is my 1st cousin 5 times removed.
