With just a year between them in age, Peter and my father, John Lowe, were second cousins who grew up side by side on Green Turtle. In the late 1940s, as young men in their twenties, both began working at Maura Lumber Company—Peter in the lumber department and Dad in the paint department.
The Nassau Tribune reported during the 1960s (article below)…
The manager of the Lumber Department is soft spoken Peter Lowe. To many customers, he represents trust and respect. To many contractors, he’s the man who will always give you a “fair deal.”
At Maura’s, Peter Lowe represents continuity, loyalty and dedication. he has been with the company since 1947. He is also one of the new owners and a director of the company.
Mr. Lowe says Maura’s prices are competitive and the quality of the merchandise is second to none, but he urges customers to “continue to let us have your views about our product, our service, or any particular question about your individual account.”
He added, “It is our customers who have helped us to grow through the years by an exchange of thoughts and ideas.”
Anyone who knows Peter Lowe knows he speaks from the heart. A satisfied customer is what makes him happy.
Peter Cecil Lowe passed away on October 21, 2005 (age 79) in Nassau, New Providence.
