Captain Charles Ronald Hodgkins was born on April 15, 1907, in Green Turtle Cay, Abaco to James ALVIN Hodgkins (1874-1957) and Georgiana Susan ‘Georgie’ Lowe (1887-1983).
His siblings included Harold Jeremiah (1909), Nellie Isabel (1911), Richard Gustave (1914), Lionel Archibald (1919).
In August 1929, Captain Charles married Ella Estell Pinder (1912-1933). She is the daughter of Willie and Mary Pinder. Ella passed away in childbirth. Their son, Leverne Hodgkins (1933) survived and was raised by the paternal grandparents Georgie & Alvin Hodgkins at Green Turtle Cay.
In November 1941, he married Lela Mae Albury (1915-1999) from Cherokee Sound. She is the daughter of John Hermes Albury (1887-1963) and Lauretta Pinder (1894-1971).
Captain Charles was a great shipwright and mariner and helped his father build and repair boats. He went on sponging trips in their family-owned boat. He also worked on the mail boat from Nassau to Abaco as well as the shipyard in Nassau. Other sea expeditions carried him to South America, Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica, and through the Panama Canal. In his later years, Charles was Captain on the M/V Betty K that sailed from Nassau to Miami.
Captain Charles passed away on March 28, 1994 (age 87) in Nassau, New Providence.
