Amelia Lowe was born on March 13, 1821, in Green Turtle Cay, Abaco to Benjamin Lowe (1775-1859) and Bianca Curry. She is the granddaughter of Patriarch Captain Gideon William Lowe and Nancy ‘Ann’ Saunders.
Amelia’s siblings include Mary ‘Polly’ (1806), Martha Ann (1808), Jane, Nancy ‘Nannie’, William ‘Piorka’
In December 1839 on Green Turtle Cay, Amelia married Brilander William Kemp (1813-1882). He is the son of Samuel Kemp. William and Amelia immigrated to Key West, Florida. The marriage was officiated by
Their children included Joseph H (1841), Benjamin Wilson (1842), Tahpenes Ann (1844), TWINS Caroline Elizabeth & Richard H (1847), Josephus W (1849), Samuel (1852), William A (1855), TRIPLETS John O, Mary E and Richard T (1857), Cornelius Franklin (1859), and Walter James (1863).
William Kemp was one of the earliest settlers of Key West. He was a sea captain. In 1840, he formed Wm. Kemp & Co., a ship chandlery business providing essential supplies and equipment to ships in Key West.
Amelia passed away on July 23, 1892 (age 71) in Key West, Florida.
