Inez Louise Lowe was born on July 24, 1910, in Green Turtle Cay, Abaco to William Irwin Lowe (1873-1951) and Alice Lowe (1873-1932).

In February 1928, Inez married Carl Adolph Gates (1909-1981) from Hope Town, Abaco. He is the son of John William Gates Jr (1880-1962) and Rosa Olivia Malone (1882-1945).

Inez was known for her warm hospitality and her skill in traditional Bahamian cooking, which made her home a gathering place for friends and family.

Inez passed away on October 27, 1969 (age 59) in Miami, Florida. She is buried at Ebenezer Methodist Church cemetery in Nassau, New Providence.
