On May 24, 1934, Basil married Minnie Lee Jarrett Cunningham (1885-1985) from North Carolina. The couple divorced in September 1942.
Basil, along with his brothers Cecil, Harold, Charlie and Floyd, established the first successful commercial shark fishery in the Bahamas.
On September 6, 1932, two of their sons, Deweese (age 16) and his younger brother Bert (age 2), were tragically killed during the Cat 5 hurricane that ravaged the island.
In 1939, he became a citizen of the United States and operated a successful charter boat company in Clearwater, Florida.
Basil Ambrose Lowe passed away September 10, 1966 (age 69) in Homestead, Florida.
