David Hamilton Roberts was born on March 13, 1834, in Green Turtle Cay, Abaco to James Roberts (1798-1870) and Patience Ann Adams (1801-1863).

In August 1855, David married Mary Sarah Russell (1837-1900) from Green Turtle Cay, Abaco. She is the daughter of Joseph Russell (1800-1877) and Sarah Elizabeth Curry (1808-1860).

David and Mary Sarah’s families had immigrated from Green Turtle Cay to Key Vacas and Indian Key when they were children in the early 1840s, some of the earliest settlers to the area.
The story was that David Roberts’ family survived the Seminole Indian massacre by hiding in a cistern. His family moved down to Key West after the attack but David, a seaman, moved back up to Indian Key after he and Mary Sarah married. The family moved to Clearwater, Florida sometime in the mid 1880s where David continued his profession as a fisherman. Find a Grave Memorial
